Mute Swan (Cygnus olor), Zuiko Olympus OM 1000mm F11

This photo of a mute swan (Cygnus olor) was taken at Lymington-Keyhaven nature reserve,  a part of the South’s coastline that was purchased and is managed by the Hampshire County Council, back in 2007. At the time I used my recently acquired Zuiko Olympus OM 1000mm F11 lens for two reasons. Firstly, (most importantly!) to try it out and secondly as the swan was too far away for a worthwhile shot on my other telephoto lens, the Tokina 400mm F5.6.

I normally visit the Lymington-Keyhaven nature reserve in the winter months when the migratory birds have arrived. There are several different access points to the reserve, one at the Haven boat yard in Lymington, one at Pennington Marshes reserve, and the other at Keyhaven itself. All offer excellent views of the coastline along with land locked water sites, where the majority of the migratory birds can be seen.

I will be writing an article on the pro’s and con’s of using an extreme telephoto lens very shortly, along with explanations on the other equipment purchased since. If you have any immediate questions then please feel free to contact me.
