Macro

A few macro shots from March/April this year

This set of macro of shots were taken from several different locations here in Dorset in late March, early April. First up was Kilwood, a Dorset Wildlife site, which is near to Corfe Castle. This place is normally a good for butterflies and dragonflies, however it turned out to be a bit late in the year for these subjects. Did come across a bloody-nosed beetle (Timarcha tenebricosa), a tick, two sets of  eggs (not sure the species that laid either of them), and a centipede (Lithobius forficatus).

p.s. you can view all images by clicking on any 1 and rotating through.

Always find it difficult to shoot bloody-nosed beetles, but pretty pleased with these two shots.

This was the tick I found whilst rooting around in some leaf litter (also where I found the 1st set of eggs). These give me the creepy crawlies if found on me.

The next place that I visited was Stoborough Heath, near Wareham. Not much about apart from some ants that took an interest in a Dandelion, and some mating lady birds. The ants looked like they were feeding off the pollen.

Finally, also went to Hod Hill, where there was even less about. Did find one solitary shield bug though, who seemed to like climbing leaves.
