Autumn Trees at Anderwood, New Forest

These 3 images of autumn trees were taken at Anderwood, New Forest last autumn, and with the first 2 attempted a different metering technique to achieve a back lit photo.

A back lit photo is where the sun is in front of the camera instead of typically being behind or to the side of you and the camera. When taking this image you will need to take into account the possibility of lens flare and the effect on the camera’s exposure reading.

A way to avoid lens flare is to hide the sun behind part of the scene you are shooting, and for the 2 back lit images here I took a meter reading from the tree trunk.

These two images hopefully show the difference achieved with the position of the sun in the scene.

For the last picture I wanted to emphasize the height of the tree by using a wide angle lens.
