Same weather, same location

Sunday proved to be very similar to Saturday in terms of weather, bright sunny spells interspersed with heavy downpours some of which happened to be hail showers, and so went back to the same location to Saturday, Blashford Lakes nature reserve. Proved to be quite succesful decision plus managed to get around without getting wet or hit with hail.

On arrival at the Tern Hide we spotted a bird of prey hovering over the Goosander Hide, pretty certain it is one of the Red Kites (Milvus milvus) that has been a regularly reported sighting.

The kite got mobbed and appeared to drop down into the woodland near to the Goosander Hide, and so decided to walk around the reserve in the hope of spotting where it had landed. Did not see it again, however on entry to the Goosander Hide sighted the Red-crested pochard (Netta rufina), nearest on the right.

There was also a Little Grebe (Tachybaptus ruficollis) that was starting to show its summer plumage.

Next stop the Lapwing Hide. Passed a couple on the way who advised to look out for the adders (Vipera berus) that were basking about 50 meters from the hide. Took a little while to spot even with the mention.

I also shot the Red-crested Pochard and adders in movie mode which I hope to post to You tube shortly.

On the return leg visited the Woodland Hide where this Greenfinch (Carduelis chloris) first off seemed to be inquisitive
