Langford Lakes & Blashford Lakes nature reserves

The weekend just gone saw a visit on Sunday to two nature reserves, first Langford Lakes and then Blashford Lakes. There was a lot more breeding on display at Langford Lakes to Blashford Lakes with Swans & Geese sitting on nests, some very close to the paths, and these Coots (Fulica atra) feeding their chicks.

The parent Coot appears to pretty much swallow the chick.

The Great Crested Grebes (Podiceps cristatus) now have their summer plumage on full display.

Also spotted this Female Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) before moving on to Blashford Lakes.

Blashford Lakes on the otherhand did not seem to have so much to photograph (the parts of the reserve we visited anyway). You may see the Terns, and although I have labelled these Common Terns (Sterna hirundo), I admit that I am no expert so these could well be Arctic Terns who do visit on their migration.

Last, and by no means least, my personal favourite shot of the day, a Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos).
