Another set of insect macro shots from Garston Wood

Here is another set of insect macro shots from Garston Wood RSPB nature reserve, these being taken yesterday. There is a very good showing of blue bells in the wood, which I shot on slide film so these will be posted later once developed.

This time around we did come across some different types of insects that I have never spotted or photographed before, and so I cannot guarantee that my identification is 100% accurate. The never before photographed insects were the:

1. Longhorn Moths (Adelinae). I am pretty certain there were 2 different types . Updated 5th May 14 – There was only I type of Longhorn Moth. (Adelinae). The first 2 pictures are more like the Micro moths Micropterigidae  (Micropterix calthella) The Nemophora cupriacella, who have a funky yellow hair style on the head.

and the Adela rufimitrella Longhorn Moth.

I initially thought that the next two “never before photographed” are a type of shieldbug due to their appearance. They are instead a type of beetle.

2. Pale Tortoise Beetle (Cassida flaveola)

There were shieldbug’s around including this Common Green Shieldbug (Palomena prasina)

This next shot has a completely different background, that of my brothers white hat, which appeared when he moved into frame in attempting to macro a different subject. I kind of like the effect it created.

Hoverflies (Syrphidae) are also very much in abundance and these are my best 2 shots from the day.
