An alternative macro lens and extension tube combination

I decided to try out an alternative macro lens and extension tube combination, attaching the Olympus 90mm F2 macro lens to the Telescopic Auto Tube 65-116 and an Olympus 25mm extension tube. This combination effectively gave an approx 3x magnification at full extension and necessitated using the Olympus FS-STF22 twin flash as well.

There was a varied selection of insects at Blashford Lakes nature reserve to test this set up properly on, with the 1st few shots at the maximum 3x mag.

A very colourful type of micro moth, the Common Tubic micro moth (Alabonia geoffrella)

A beetle stepping over the edge of a leaf.

A reddish spider, possibly a type of Orb spider

And I couldn’t resist another couple of damselfly head shots.

This one is an Immature Female Violacea Blue-tailed Damselfly (Ischnura elegans).
