Smooth or Common Newt

I discovered what appears to be a Smooth Newt (also called a Common Newt (Triturus vulgaris / Lissotriton vulgaris)) at Ramsdown under a decaying log whilst on a macro photo search today for more tiny bugs.

According to the Reptiles & Amphibians of the UK identification web page these are our widest distributed of native newt, who hibernate from late September until March.

It appeared to be still in hibernation as it allowed me to also take this 4 image pano stack.
