Olympus 60mm F2.8 focus bracketing
Following on from the last post the next field test of the Olympus 60mm F2.8 looked at focus bracketing.
This feature is found in the Olympus EM5 MkII camera menu as follows:
– shooting menu 2 – Bracketing – Focus BKT
It then offers you the ability to manually set:-
- The number of shots from 1-999,
- The focus differential from 1(narrow) to 10 (wide), and
- The charge time if you are using flash.
I set the no. of shots to 5, the focus differential to 2, and ignored the charge time as I would be shooting handheld without flash. Once I had completed the set up and selected okay I discovered that it automatically set the shooting to silent high speed sequential shooting (max 11 fps). I did not find at the time a way to change this.
Finally, its worth mentioning that it does not stack all of the images together in the camera and show the end result on the LCD screen. Instead you have to use post processing software to align and stack the shots, and I used photoshop.
The focus bracketing was trialled at a very short working distance on Large Red damselflies (Pyrrhosoma nymphula) at Dunyeats nature reserve.
