A walk to Devil’s Kitchen

This walk to Devil’s Kitchen back in June 2017 started out at Ogwen Cottage, beside Llyn Ogwen. The path leads you up to Llyn Idwal offering views of some of Snowdonia’s Glyder peaks along the way. There are two alternative routes to Devil’s Kitchen, the Kitchen being a deep rock cleft that provides acces for many walkers to and from the Glyders peaks.

Our first attempt was to turn left once reaching Llyn Idwal, and walking around the lake to the other side of the lake and the views of Y Gribin and Glyder Fach.

You eventually reach a fork in the path close to the top far end of the lake, and we turned right to steps leading upwards. Initially the steps are easy to follow up, however we lost the path once it got into a very rocky area (We found where we had made our mistake much later on when we headed back down!).

So we turned back and attempted route no.2 by skirting the top of end of the lake and then hanging a right at another fork and steps leading up to a narrow gap with a waterfall. The path upwards is very easy to follow thereon once you have managed to find your way across to the other side of this gap, a short hop if you are brave enough, or like us a little detour down hill to find an easier crossing, and then a steep incline back up to the path. Due to our exertions from other days and taking much longer than planned on this one we stopped just below Devil’s kitchen to admire the views of Pen yr Ole Wen before heading back.
