Martins Down

Visited Martins Down yesterday, jointly owned and managed by Natural England and the Hampshire County Council, in the hope of taking some butterfly pictures with the weather being promising, sunny if a bit breezy. The wind played a factor as the butterflies were not in evidence for a long time, although did find two endangered Burnt-tip Orchids (Neotinea ustulata) alongside the path.  This is a picture of one.

The butterflies were finally located around or down a path leading off to the right which was sheltered from the wind. Kindly mentioned by a couple of passing people.

There were quite a few Small Blues (Cupido minimus).
