Garston Wood Snowdrops

The annual visit to Garston Wood to photo the Snowdrops has come around, and this time I took along my Olympus EM1 MkII camera, 60mm F2.8 macro lens, and manfrotto pixi evo2 mini tripod.

I also took the opportunity to play with the in camera focus stacking function. In this mode the camera shoots 8 frames and blends them automatically together into one photo in camera. This means there is no need to stack the 8 frames in a post processing tool.

There were mixed results. The Good

and the Bad where you can see that the automatically blending failed. This is probably due to the poor lighting conditions coupled with wind movement.

Another lesson learned is that the stacking will compress the area of view you see through the viewfinder in the final blended photo. You can easily see this when you compare the above shot to the next one which was taken immediately afterwards.
