The sun is out and the insects are out to play!

Good news, at last decent weather! The sun is out and the insects are out to play! Woo Hoo!

The temperature jumped around 8-10 degrees in the space of a couple of days, resulting in all manner of insect activity at Blashford Lakes nature reserve.

This pair of Helophilus Hoverflies were so into the moment that they didnt mind the placing of yellow card in the background to provide an eye catching image.

The nedyus quadrimaculatus weevils were also at it!

And it wasn’t just mating that was on the insects minds, it was also food!

This Common Blue Damselfly (Enallagma cyathigerum) continued to chomp on the really big juicy morsel it had caught even after several photo’s!

The damselflies were not alone in feeding, I also came across this Bee, Scorpion fly (Mecoptera) and Dance/Dagger fly.

Other insects preferred to just rest up in the heat. The occasional bench around the reserve offered provided this opportunity for me as well!
