2nd visit of the year to Pignal Inclosure

2nd visit of the year to Pignal Inclosure in the New Forest today, and a scorcher of a day it turned out to be. This time last year it was a good place to visit to view the Silver-washed Fritillary (Argynnis paphia) butterfly, not so this time only spotting 2 on the wing. The hot weather meant that a lot of the other butterflies & dragonflies were also on the wing rather than at rest so limiting picture opportunities. That being said did manage to capture a few.

Keeled Skimmer (Orthetrum coerulescens) dragonflies were abound

The 2 species of butterfly taken were the Ringlet (Aphantopus hyperantus)

and the Large Skipper (Ochlodes sylvanus).

and finally on the walk back to the car park surprisingly came across an amphibian, a Toad.

Pretty impressive pics Pete. I love this dragonfly shot – so much detail! I like the pic of the spider devouring a wriggling wasp – good find 🙂
