Little Town to High Snab Bank

We moved east to west for the 2nd week of the holidays, from the North Yorkshire Moors to the Lake District national park, staying a short distance from Keswick.

The first excursion in the Lake District was a walk from Little Town to High Snab Bank and High Crags. This walk offers scenic vista’s of the surrounding valley’s, mountains and crags, and which sit beneath the mountains Hindscarth and Robinson.

You start at a car park just outside of Little Town, and cross the bridge over Scope Beck and follow the road that takes you past Newlands Church.

The road steadily climbs to lead you past a property at High Snab and to a well defined path alongside Scope Beck Valley.

You eventually come across a fork in the path, and the choice of a very steep incline to High Snab bank or gradual one to High Crabs. We chose the very steep one!

The climb is pretty much vertical at the outset, though relatively short, and you will find the path flattens out as you make your way along High Snab Bank to the foot of Robinson’s.

The far side of High Snab Bank will offer you excellent views of Derwent Fells and Knott Rigg, Causey Pike, Ard Crags, and Scar Crags in the distance.

The views across Scope Beck Valley are particularly impressive, giving you views of the mountains Hindscarth, Maiden Moor, and High Spy.

Once we made the foot of Robinson we decided to return back the way we had come, down the steep bit to the original fork and take the path up Scope Beck Valley to High Crags.

The path takes you alongside Scope Beck to a tarn that sits in between Robinson and Hindscarth,

Finally we returned back down the path to the road and the car, and a well earned rest.

Here are the views from the valley on the return to the car looking towards Little Town, Keswick and Skiddaw in the very far distance.
