First photos of 2017

The first photo’s of this year are of the Great White Egret (Egretta alba), the Little Egret (Egretta garzetta), and the Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos).

The Great White Egret may be seen at Blashford Lakes nature reserve, and on this particular visit the best viewing was from the hide that overlooks Ivy Lake and is situated along the path beside Rockford Lake.

I managed to also get a couple semi decent in flight photo’s. Plus you will find a short video of it wading and fishing amongst the reeds at the bottom of this post.

These Little Egret photos were taken from the hide at Middlebere Farm, and the obvious difference to the Great White Egret, apart from size, is the colour of its bill which is black rather than yellow.
